Dr. Tariro Marufu

Clinical Psychologist, MNZCCP

I was born and raised in Zimbabwe before moving to South Africa, where I completed my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Cape Town, followed by a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology specialising in children at the University of the Free State (Bloemfontein). In 2019, I moved to New Zealand with my family and worked within the public health system at Child, Adolescent and Family Services (CAFS) in the Hawke’s Bay DHB. After this, I transitioned into private practice, where I have worked for the past five years.

I have recently relocated to Auckland and am currently working in private practice in Hobsonville, supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families.

My work includes individual therapy, play therapy with children, psychotherapy with adolescents and adults, and work under ACC Sensitive Claims, including specialist assessments. I also conduct neurodevelopmental and cognitive assessments, including ADHD assessments. I enjoy the balance of therapeutic and assessment-based work and the different ways each allows me to support clients.

Outside of my work, I enjoy spending time with my family, travelling, and exploring the outdoors. Discovering the natural beauty of New Zealand continues to be a source of grounding and inspiration for me.

If you’re considering therapy and would like to explore whether working together might be a good fit, you’re welcome to get in touch for an initial conversation.

My Approach

My approach to therapy is integrative, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I draw from well-established psychological approaches and tailor therapy to the individual, recognising that what is helpful for one person may not be helpful for another.

Our Service

Collaborative Process

Therapy with me is a collaborative process. I work alongside you to identify your goals and to explore what feels most important to focus on. I see you as the expert on your own life, and my role is to offer guidance, perspective, and support as we work together.

Feedback-Informed Treatment

I also place a strong emphasis on feedback-informed treatment. I invite open conversations about how therapy is feeling for you and whether the process is meeting your needs. Your feedback helps shape our work together, and I am open to adjusting the approach so that therapy remains responsive, respectful, and aligned with your goals.

Warm, Thoughtful & Supportive Space

Above all, I aim to create a warm, thoughtful, and supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and actively involved in your own growth—at a pace that feels right for you.
